feeling flannel | summertime throwback

I’m reluctant to say it, but I miss summer terribly. Although the relentless heat is often paired with daily complaints, with the current onset of winter, I’d love for the warmth to return. This flannel look was photographed this summer and never went up on the blog — a bit of a throwback, of sorts. It’s probably one of the softest flannels I’ve ever come across, with a slight watercolor effect and perfect, casual Vermonty vibe. I’d pair it with white Converse and a black shearling jacket for this season.

Summer sunshine and strolling the streets of NYC – what’s not to love? This weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the annual Her Campus Conference for the second year in a row, but this time with a few of my friends/fellow chapter members from St. Mike’s! With the #HerConference on Saturday and having arrived the day prior, we spent Friday afternoon wandering through Soho to do a bit of shopping and naturally, stopping for the most incredible sweet treats at Molly’s Cupcakes before heading back to our hostel up on 101st street for the night.

Saturday at the conference was completely filled with inspirational speakers, career advice, fabulous giveaways and of course, all the snackies you could ever want. So many style and media role models in one place made for a wildly successful day, and I’ve definitely taken away some tips & tricks for blogging, deciding your career path and more that I’ll be sharing in an upcoming post!

This blue CottonOn dress (one of my favorite purchases in South Africa) was the #ootd for the conference, which was just dressy enough but not over-the-top when paired with my black & cognac leather sandals. Simple, chic and breezy for a hot summer day in the city!

Chloe + Isabel earrings included in my #HerConference goody bag. IN LOVE.

Today was a bit cooler for an early summer day, which required an outfit change mid-day into something a bit warmer than a tank with jeans. This short sleeve “sweatshirt” with small crystal embellishments was one of my favorite purchases from our go-to shop in South Africa – CottonOn. I snagged it from the clearance rack for only $10; not a typical sweatshirt, but it still feels comfy and loose enough to wear on a casual afternoon (especially for a quick bike ride while the sun attempted to poke through the clouds!)

It was a crisp fall day here in Stellenbosch! I was finally forced to switch out sandals for my go-to studded loafers, which paired perfectly with this green embroidered-shoulder utility jacket that I almost didn’t pack (thank goodness I did). Not in the mood to deal with my hair in the wind, I opted for a baseball cap to top everything off. Don’t hesitate with adding a cap to a casual daytime look – see below for some of my picks!
